Abstract: In the modern multi-story construction, floating column is an unavoidable feature of buildings. Such features are highly undesirable in building built in seismic prone areas. This study highlights the performance of floating column building and compared with normal building under seismic load. In this study, static and dynamic analyses using response spectrum method have been carried out for multi-story building with and without floating columns. Different cases of the building have been studied by varying the location of floating column and increasing the column size. The results showed that story displacement increased by 56.96% in floating column building compared to normal building. Torsional irregularity was found when floating column was introduced unsymmetrically. It was also found that fundamental time period was increasing in floating column building and lateral stiffness was decreasing in floating column building. When the lost cross sectional area due to floating columns were distributed among ground floor columns then it was found that story displacement as well as fundamental time period decreased and lateral stiffness increased.

Abstract: Through the analysis of urban underground streets development and present urban construction situation over the world, based on the underground streets in the meaning of commercial supplementary and comprehensive environmental improvement function, combined with China's national conditions, it is studied in the field of urban underground streets planning for urban underground space construction. The commercial advantage of urban underground streets is of unique performance. On the one hand, underground streets without rain and snow weather factors on shopping, as is very attractive to consumers, and undoubtedly of positive significance to the active markets and the economic prosperities; on the other hand, the underground streets provide not only leisure and pleasure for people, but also safe and convenient shopping environment for people, as are the main reasons to attract customers. The construction of underground streets improves the transportation for human activities in modern cities. We should treat the urban and the underground space as a whole and set up the urban planning system in line with the requirements of the three-dimensional construction of the city. It is high time to make full use of the valuable resource of urban underground space and to promote scientific and reasonable planning of urban underground streets for prosperities of modern cities.

Abstract: The convergence of numerical solution based on two nodded beam finite element require considerable number of iterations and time; and is also plagued with shear locking. To address these deficiencies a three nodded beam element is proposed in this study to simulate the behavior of beams on elastic foundation. The analytical formulation of the model and development of shape functions are achieved with assumption of Winkler hypothesis for beam on elastic foundation A Matlab programme was developed to determine the combined beam and foundation stiffness as well as the load vector. The proposed model reliably simulates the deformations and stress resultants of beam on elastic foundation under general loading conditions. The result showed faster convergence devoid of shear locking. The maximum deflection and bending moment differ from the classical solution by about 5 percent.

Abstract: Bridge pile foundation on large-scale deposit body bears not only the vertical force transmitted from superstructure, but the lateral force transmitted from slope deformation, so the force situation is complex. The method of solving the internal force of piles which is simulated with solid elements is put forward in the paper. Taking Dahuaqiao bridge pile foundation as an example to carry out numerical simulation analysis. The distribution rules of axial force, shear force and bending moment of the pile in different position were analyzed. The results can provide the basis for the design and safety evaluation of bridge pile foundation.
